Temporary Prosthesis
This section will attempt to guide you through the process of receiving a temporary prosthesis. A temporary prosthesis is fit about four to twelve weeks after surgery, depending on how well and quickly the suture line heals. The temporary prosthesis is your first prosthesis. It will help you(r):
-
Get accustomed to putting on and taking off (donning and doffing) a prosthesis
-
Skin get accustomed to the new pressures and forces of prosthetic use
-
Learn to walk on a prosthesis
- Helps you to learn to manage the socks you need to wear as your residual limb volume changes
In order to accomplish these things, the way this first prosthesis is designed and looks will quite likely be different from your future prostheses.
